5. Andrew Columbus² COLLINS (Lewis Andrew¹)⁽¹¹⁶⁾ #1490 was born September 21, 1945.⁽¹¹⁷⁾ Andrew died December 9, 1972 in Coolidge, GA (Thomas Co.), at 27 years of age.

He married Joann LOTT. (Joann LOTT #1509.) Young Man Electrocuted Near Coolidge. By Roy Trefftzs. Andrew Columbus Collins, 24, was electrocuted about 5 p.m. Saturday as he and his father were digging a water well at the site of the son's mobile home about a quarter mile south of Coolidge, off Hwy. 319. The victims father, Lewis Andrew Collins, was atop a scaffold they had constructed at the well site, said Sheriff's Deputy Barney Butler, who investigated. As the father pulled the well drill from the hole with a pulley atop the scaffold, the victim reached over to pull the drill to one side to clean it. As he did so the top of the metal pipe came into contact with an electric power line. Andrew Collins was frozen to the drill and fell on top of the pipe, according to his father. His father leaped from the scaffold and attempted to free his son but he received a severe jolt and had to let go. Only his rubber boots prevented him from being electrocuted also, said investigators. The father then ran to the road and screamed for help. A neighbor girl, Shirley Tyson, heard him and drove into Coolidge for help. She also called the sheriff's office, Coolidge Police Chief J.D. Cannon went to the scene and they were able to free young Collins from the wires. Deputy Butler, Sheriff C.A. Rehberg and Coroner Lynn Kirkland also went to the scene. Kirkland pronounced the victim dead from shock. ** Andrew Columbus Collins, 24, of Rt. 6, Moultrie, formerly of Thomas County, was electrocuted in a mishap Saturday near Coolidge. Services were planned at 3 p.m. today at Salem Baptist Church by the Rev. Ben Rountree, with burial in Pinecrest Memorial Garden by Dekle Funeral Chapel. Mr. Collins was a carpenter-contractor, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Joann Lott Collins; a son, Andrew C. Collins, Jr.; a daughter, Stacey Collins, all of Moultrie; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Collins, Coolidge; two brothers, Elbert and David Collins, both of Moultrie; and three sisters, Miss Linda Faye Collins, Coolidge, Mrs. Lillian Connell, Moultrie, and Mrs. Jeri Sue Vick, Hinesville. ** From headstone - SP 4 US Army Vietnam
